Georgia Tech and Shepherd Center Research Collaborative


Shepherd Center and Georgia Tech have partnered to advance rehabilitative patient care and research (press release). This will be the final of four scheduled events in 2024 for an opportunity to identify and build collaborations between researchers, clinicians, and students from both institutions.

Panelists:

  • Raeda Anderson, Research Scientist, Shepherd Center; Affiliate Professor of Sociology, Georgia State University - Her research centers on social determinants of health for disabled adults.
  • Beth Boatwright, Chief Financial Officer, Shepherd Center - As CFO, she oversees the hospital's budgets, financial strategy, and day to day business operations. She has 27 years of experience in finance management across the medical field including senior roles at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Resurgens Orthopedics, and Emory University' School of Medicine. 
  • Salimah LaForce, Senior Research Scientist, Senior Policy Analyst, Center for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP), Georgia Tech - She specializes in policy research, identifying and describing intended and unanticipated implementation outcomes. Her work includes increasing the accessibility and usability of information communications technologies, improving employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, building capacity for inclusive emergency response efforts, and cultural competency in the delivery of healthcare services. She has 18 years of experience conducting user needs and experiences research, utilizing study results to inform policy and practice recommendations.
  • Cici McNamara, Assistant Professor of Economics, Georgia Tech - Her research interests are in empirical industrial organization and her recent work has examined the effects of financial incentives and competition on healthcare market outcomes.
  • Abigail Thompson, Director of Government Relations and Advocacy, Shepherd Center - She is an experienced healthcare lobbyist representing the local, state, and federal interests of Shepherd.
